What Ghost Nets Are And Why They Matter

What Ghost Nets Are + Why They Matter

And why this design exists to start conversations that protect the sea

You might’ve heard the term “ghost net” before, but what is it?

Ghost nets are abandoned fishing nets left behind in the ocean, drifting unseen. They continue to trap, injure, and kill marine life long after they’re forgotten by humans. Sea turtles, whales, dolphins, and seabirds all get caught in this floating plastic, and the damage is heartbreaking.

These nets are made from synthetic materials like nylon, so they don’t just break down, they stay. Floating through the ocean for decades.

Why I Created the Ghost Net Tote

I didn’t want to make something heavy handed or preachy, but I did want to tell the truth. I believe art should help people see. So this piece is meant to be a conversation starter. A quiet reminder that what we leave in the sea, stays.

Every Purchase Supports Ocean Cleanup

10% of every Ghost Net tote sale is donated to marine conservation efforts. It’s a small way to give back, and a bigger way to remind ourselves that the ocean deserves better.

want to be a listener for those who have no one to hear them, and a comfort for those who feel alone. I believe we all have what it takes to lead amazing lives filled with wonder and excitement. I grew up in a very small town in Upstate New York, and I was what you would call a “problem child” growing up. Although maybe, I was just a little misunderstood. After High School I went to school in Syracuse, NY. My life changed here and I realized how much I wanted to help people, adolescents specifically at the time. I earned my degree in Human Services specializing in counseling.

After college I realized how hard it was to find a job with your degree, as I am sure many can relate to. I decided to move to Florida and continue my life as a waitress, thankful still for the education I received in college. During my time in Florida I became very interested in Ocean Conservation and Marine Biology so I began to scuba dive to experience more of it. Scuba diving then led me here on Maui, Hawaii. Since then I have still felt such a calling for helping people, so I decided to start a wellness blog. My main goal for this was to create a safe place in a sometimes not so safe world, even if it is virtual. I want to share my experiences with you and hope that they may help you along your journey.

Art and nature are two of my favorite things and I explore them both often. I think humans are meant to create in all different forms. I appreciate all forms of art and think we are all artists. Thank you for joining me on this journey.

Peace, Love & Happiness
